AEW President and ROH owner Tony Khan took to social media to share the tragic news of the star’s passing.

“Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today. Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin”

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that Briscoe’s death was the result of a car accident in Laurel, DE. Meltzer also notes that two people sadly passed away in the tragic accident.

Jay Briscoe And His Brother Mark Defeated FTR To Win The ROH World Tag Team Championship At Final Battle

On December 10th, Jay and Mark Briscoe faced FTR in a brutal Double Dog Collar match for the ROH World Tag Team Championship.

The match was bloody and violent from the get-go with all the competitors shedding blood during the bout as well as referee Mike Posey who was busted open during the melee. In the end, The Briscoes came out on top as Harwood was choked with the chain connecting him to Jay Briscoe.

After the match, FTR received a standing ovation for their efforts but that was cut short by Austin and Colten Gunn who attacked the pair. The Briscoes returned to see The Gunns off and helped their opponents up before all four men rightly took the adulation of the crowd for their efforts.

Inside the Ropes sends its deepest condolences to Mark Briscoe and the rest of Jay’s friends and family at this difficult time.
