Dragon Lee has captured the NXT North American Championship.
Dragon Lee was a last-minute challenger for Dominik Mysterio, as his original opponent, Wes Lee, has been forced to take time off due to back surgery that could leave him out of action for up to a year.
While the crowd was chanting ‘Mami’ for Rhea Ripley, Mysterio entered the arena with no backup from The Judgment Day, something that may have been costly for the champion. Lee made the most of his unexpected opportunity for the title, opening with a flurry of attacks that Dominik struggled to counter.
However, things changed when Mysterio was able to drop Lee on his head with a DDT on the ring apron. After hitting Three Amigos, Mysterio got cocky, stopping the pinfall at two. This allowed Lee the opportunity to get back in the match.
The two went back and forth, but eventually, Dominik saw the chance to go for a 619. Lee got out of the way and hit a Sitout Powerbomb, following up with Operacion Dragon for the victory and to capture gold for the first time in his WWE career.

After finding out Lee would be unable to compete, Michaels says they only had 24 hours to change the challenger to Dragon Lee.
