“They Messed With His Head” – Mick Foley Believes WWE Ruined Former Talent

Mick Foley

Mick Foley believes that WWE created issues for one particular talent when it wasn’t needed.

Although “Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy” got his squared circle start by taking bumps in the ring, the WWE Hall Of Famer had the testicular fortitude to try his hand at several other aspects in the pro wrestling industry. He’s been WWE commissioner, WWE GM and even WWE color commentator. Foley once put on the headset alongside legendary ECW play-by-play man Joey Styles at One Night Stand back in 2005. However, doesn’t think that Styles’ brief run in WWE was beneficial for him and said so on the latest episode of “Foley Is Pod.”

“I thought Joey was better before they messed with his head, honestly. I thought they’re trying to take away the things that make Joey, Joey.”

Mick Foley On What Made WWE Commentary So Difficult

Pro wrestling ommentary can be a tough gig in the first place, but before Joey Styles even stepped foot in WWE, he displayed that he was capable of handling the job. While most commentary teams nowadays carry two to four people, Styles mostly handled the call for ECW (and later MLW in 2002 & 2003 ) completely on his own. However, Foley notes that no one is ever prepared for the unique situation that was once presented for all WWE commentators.

“And now you have Mr. McMahon in your head. It can really be a difficult existence on an announcer.”
