Samoa Joe Smashes 8 Year Record

Samoa Joe has made Ring of Honor history.

As of November 2nd 2023, the ROH Television Champion has broken the record for the longest singular reign with the title in the history of the promotion. After defeating Minoru Suzuki on the April 13 2022 episode of AEW Dynamite, Joe has successfully held on to the title for 568 days, surpassing the previous record set by Jay Lethal’s reign that began back in 2014.

The championship reign is Samoa Joe’s third within the promotion, having previously held the ROH World and ROH Pure Championships. While the first two reigns were while ROH was independently owned, the record-breaking TV Championship reign has taken place with Ring of Honor under the ownership of Tony Khan.

It was shortly after the ROH purchase that Joe made the shock return to the promotion, debuting at the Supercard of Honor XV pay-per-view in April 2022. Wrestling on both AEW and ROH, Joe has also found championship success in AEW, previously reigning twice with the TNT Championship.

At one point holding the TNT and ROH Television championships simultaneously, The Samoan Submission Machine gave himself the moniker of “King of Television.”

Samoa Joe Looks To Add More Gold To His Collection

Looking to be a double champion once again, Joe has frequently targeted AEW World Champion MJF in his quest to reach the top of the mountain. After winning the World Title Eliminator Tournament, Joe was unsuccessful in challenging MJF in the main event of Grand Slam. With the World Champion currently facing problems from Bullet Club Gold, Joe has offered to be of assistance to MJF if he can receive another opportunity at the Triple B. With the first encounter fresh in his mind, MJF has since declined the offer.

During a recent ROH media call, Tony Khan explained why the questionable decision was made.
