Jon Moxley

Jon Moxley Behind Ronda Rousey's ROH Debut

Ronda Rousey making her entrance at WWE WrestleMania 35

Earlier this week Ronda Rousey officially made her AEW debut teaming with Marina Shafir to defeat the duo of Athena and Billie Starkz.

Writing in this morning’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer would reveal that Jon Moxley was behind Ronda Rousey’s ROH debut, due in part to his friendship with Sami Callihan.

Meltzer notes:

“Basically, Rousey was doing a favor for Shafir, one of her best friends, and just out there having fun doing an indie show.

Nobody knew about it until word got out that Rousey was in the dressing room the day of the show and why this was on ROH and not AEW. It may have been part of the agreement between Tony Khan and Rousey or Khan’s idea because Athena and Starkz are ROH wrestlers.

What happened was the match was booked for Revolver because Rousey wanted to team with Shafir before she goes to have another child. It was put together late in the game since Khan had to approve of all bookings of his talent, and he at first didn’t want his talent doing the match in Los Angeles the same week he had three shows in the market.

Moxley was behind this as he’s close to Sami Callihan who runs Revolver and his high on Shafir.”

The report also notes that Rousey is NOT expected to make anymore AEW or ROH appearances.

Undertaker

The Undertaker Finally Addresses Persistent WWE Rumour

The Undertaker opened up about the controversial decision to wear snakeskin pants during his match against Kurt Angle at Survivor Series 2000.

Many fans have long believed that The Undertaker, who had transitioned into his American Badass persona, had lost his luggage on a flight which included his ring gear which led him to borrow attire from his friend and fellow wrestler The Godfather.

However, Undertaker revealed that he had planned this attire change in advance of the show, despite facing opposition. In a recent episode of the Six Feet Under podcast, Undertaker recalled his conversation with Terry Anderson, the person responsible for his ring gear throughout his career. He expressed his desire to don python skin pants for the event, believing it would enhance his American Badass character.

CM Punk

CM Punk Not Expected At Survivor Series

CM Punk making his entrance as the 'Real' AEW World Champion

If you are expecting CM Punk to make his WWE return during tomorrow’s Survivor Series event…then you might want to look away.

According to a new report CM Punk remains a free agent and is not expected at tomorrow’s show.

As noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE sources have still denied that Punk will be a part of the show, but it has been speculated that this could still be a “well-kept secret.” It also confirms that Orton was announced ahead of time to stop chants in The Allstate Arena:

“Of course the biggest question regarding the show probably involves C.M. Punk. If WWE was to bring in Punk, this night or Smackdown the night before would be the place to debut him. We’ve seen no evidence this is happening and those close to the situation have denied it, but it is possible it’s a well-kept secret. We do know that one of the key reasons they made sure Orton’s name was out and didn’t do a surprise was the idea that it would lead to people expecting Punk in that spot and they wanted that shut down.

If Punk isn’t there the last thing the company wants is Punk chants during the show. From the start we were told that while there is negativity about Punk, they are not completely opposed to it if the idea is it’s something they have to do in regard to fan response. While every creative head has their plan, this creative side is not looking at being combative with the audience like Vince McMahon often was.”

As reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Knight is not scheduled to face Reigns at the Rumble, which is when Roman Reigns will next defend the title. While some are pushing for Knight, there appears to be someone else marked for that spot:

Bryan Danielson

"It's Time" For Bryan Danielson To Hang Up His Boots

Bryan Danielson Undergoes Surgery; AEW Return Update Given

Bryan Danielson may be entering the twilight of his career but he does not appear to be slowing down any time soon…despite the advice of his body…and his wife.

‘The American Dragon’ was recently announced as one of the competitors in AEW’s upcoming Continental Classic despite only recently returning from injury.

Speaking on her husband’s recent injuries, WWE Hall of Famer Brie Bella would suggest it is a sign Danielson’s body is telling him it’s time to hang up his boots.

Speaking to Marc Raimondi of ESPN, Bella would state:

“He’s made of steel, I know it’s crazy. It’s just one of those things that is unfortunate for pro wrestlers. You know, our body ages, but mentally, we don’t. I think his body is like ‘I think it’s time to hang up the boots.’”

AEW

Jay White Unhappy With AEW Full Gear Booking

Many fans were confused by the booking involved in the main event of AEW Full Gear.

MJF found himself compared to ‘Super Cena’ following the show after defeating Jay White to retain his AEW World Championship, despite being taken out earlier in the show by The Gunns, attacked by Bullet Club Gold during the match and Jay White targeting MJF’s injured leg and utilising the Dynamite Diamond Ring during the match.

Well, it appears that fans weren’t the only ones less than thrilled with the main event.

As reported by PWTorch, The Switchblade was not happy with the events that took place at Full Gear and looks to prove the critics wrong:

“White wasn’t thrilled, based on what I’ve been told, how things went with the build and the match against MJF, so he might be motivated to shine in this tournament.

He’s still among the top choices for Tony Khan to build around as a top-top star in his company for years to come. A win here, with a series of standout matches, would elevate him in the AEW universe closer to how his New Japan fans viewed him.”

Jim Ross

Jim Ross Heaps Praise On Recent AEW Match, Claims It Raised The Bar.

Swerve Strickland after winning the Texas Death Match at AEW Full Gear

Adam Page & Swerve Strickland left their blood, sweat, tears…and more blood in the ring at AEW’s 2023 Full Gear PPV.

The brutal Texas Deathmatch has garnered mixed reactions online, however, according to WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross the match “raised the bar” for AEW.

Speaking on the latest edition of Grilling JR, Ross had high praise for both Strickland and Page, comparing the bout to something that would be found in old-school ECW.

“It was a lot of drama. A lot of physically. They raised the bar, as I tweeted out as the match was going on. Those hardcore-type matches, it reminded me a lot of an old ECW. The matches and the move set and the violence, I guess.

It was a hell of a performance by those guys. I’m proud of both their efforts. Whether you like the hardcore style or you don’t like the hardcore style, the one thing you cannot do is to criticize the efforts and the work rate of the talents. That was covered…” [h/t Fightful]

WWE Survivor Series Silhouette

Oh dear, oh dear…someone might be in a lot of trouble.

Ahead of WWE Survivor Series fans online are excited for the long awaited return of ‘The Viper’ Randy Orton and the potential return of CM Punk.

But according to a new report there may be more surprises on the way… and WWE may have already spoiled them

Writing on Twitter, WrestleVotes would report that former NXT Champions The Authors of Pain and NXT faction Gallus have been featured in the official Survivor Series programme.

WrestleVotes notes:

“I’m told the Survivor Series official event program features two notable teams. One being Gallus, as no other NXT group or superstar is included.

The other noteworthy team included in the program is Akam & Rezar, formally known as The Authors of Pain. Seems both could be headed…”

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful would weigh in, noting that AOP have been re-signed with the WWE for several months though and this could finally be the start of their return.

Writing on Twitter, SRS notes:

Hope they’re back to TV soon”

There is no word at this time regarding plans for either team, however, fans online have begun to speculate that Gallus could possibly align themselves with Drew McIntyre following the former WWE Champions shock heel turn last week.
