Ric Flair says he doesn’t “want to go back on his word” and wrestle again once he competes for the final time at Starrcast this weekend.
After many decades in the industry, ‘The Nature Boy’ will wrestle his supposed final match this weekend in Nashville. The sixteen-time World Champion had retired before but always managed to come back.
Ric Flair’s last major retirement occurred at WrestleMania 24 when he wrestled Shawn Michaels. Flair would enter the WWE Hall of Fame that weekend, saying farewell to his WWE fans and friends, however, the legendary star would have more matches two years later in IMPACT Wrestling.
During his appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Ric Flair addressed whether fans could expect to see him wrestle again after Starrcast V. While the Hall of Famer did wrestle after his initial retirement in 2008, he doesn’t plan on doing the same here:
“It has to be. I get that question asked a lot, but it has to be. Even if I do well, I can’t go back on my word to the people that have given me all this respect, time and bought tickets. I have been offered 10 matches at 50 grand a piece, and I think in Europe someone offered me 100 grand. But this will be the last one. I can manage somebody and be in the ring, but it will be my last match.”
Ric Flair has stated that his return to the ring has nothing to do with money. Many Hall of Famers has come out in support of Flair for wanting to go out on his own terms, which he’ll do when the legendary star gives his final bow, tagging with Andrade El Idolo to take on Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal.
