Dwayne Johnson’s schedule is as busy as ever, but that schedule doesn’t appear to involve WWE.
The 2023 Royal Rumble was a big night for WWE with two Royal Rumble matches creating plenty of excitement and drama. Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley walked away as the Rumble winners of the Men’s and Women’s matches while Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens clashed in the main event for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, with the sensational ending involving Sami Zayn and The Bloodline imploding.
Prior to the show, there were several rumours doing the rounds that a few surprise guests would be making their return, but one of the biggest of those rumours was that The Rock would be returning to WWE. Many theorised The Great One could end up as a surprise entrant into the Men’s Rumble match to win it and then challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania or that Rock could turn up at the conclusion of Reign’s Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match to lay down a challenge to the Tribal Chief.
Dwayne Johnson Remains Absent From WWE
Sadly it was not to be with no appearance by the Hollywood megastar. After the show, The Rock took to Instagram to explain his absence, revealing that he was actually busy working during the Royal Rumble and caught a flight the following day at 4 am. The Rock thanked his fans for understanding and for their continued support.
“Worked all Saturday night, hopped on the bird at 4am and the eagle just landed to a chilly and blessed Sunday morning 🦅 🛬 🥶 ☀️ ☕️ I think I’ll sleep next month 💤 🤪 Gonna hit the gym and get my mental inventory going 🧠 ☑️ Then I’m all yours TEXAS. Let’s get to work.”
The Rock has many projects from filming to producing to the launch of the XFL this year, but the much-anticipated dream match with Rock and Roman Reigns could still be on the cards eventually as Triple H stated in the post-Royal Rumble press conference that WWE are aware how busy Johnson is but the door is always open for a return whenever he has a window of time and wants to electrify the WWE audience once again.
