Adebayo Akinfenwa To Appear At PROGRESS

Adebayo Akinfenwa

Iconic cult footballing star Adebayo Akinfenwa will make his debut at a pro wrestling show as he accompanies an AEW star to the ring.

Wrestling is a broad church and over the years everyone from budding high school athletes to bonafide Olympic gold medallists have made the leap to the world of pro wrestling, with many making it all the way to WWE.

Now former Wycombe Wanderers striker Adebayo Akinfenwa is entering the world of pro wrestling – albeit from the sidelines for now.

PROGRESS announced on social media that Akinfenwa will accompany Olympic boxer and AEW star Anthony Ogogo to the ring for his bout at their Chapter 145 show on October 23rd against Malik who will be accompanied by Kosta Konstantino.

Speaking to PROGRESS, Adebayo Akinfenwa was quoted as saying:

The Guv and I have always been good pals and I’ve always been fascinated by the world of professional wrestling – and in fact that training session with Sheamus really got me thinking.

“Anthony told me he needed a bit of back up for his up and coming PROGRESS fight and it sounded a bit like an ‘Avengers Assemble’ call.

“I’ll be in his corner down in Camden and Malik and Kosta had better behave – the Beast will be in the house.”

Anthony Ogogo has not competed on AEW Dynamite since June 2021, however, the English star has been heavily featured on Dark and Elevation, last wrestling for the promotion back in August 2022.
