Dwayne Johnson Comments On ‘War’ Between Marvel And DC

Dwayne Johnson has commented on his opinion about a “war” between Marvel and DC and if there are comparisons to wrestling’s Monday Night Wars.

The Monday Night Wars were, of course, the series of battles for supremacy every week in the ratings between WCW and WWE and their flagship shows, Nitro and Raw respectively. That war began in 1995 when Eric Bishoff convinced his bosses to go head-to-head with WWE and the company launched Monday Nitro.

With the New World Order, DDP, and Goldberg leading the charge, WCW defeated their WWE counterpart for 83 straight weeks but with the rise of stars such as Steve Austin, The Rock, and Mick Foley, the tide soon turned with WWE taking control, eventually buying WCW in early 2001.

Now in the superhero movie world, many fans feel another war is brewing – not on screen – but between Marvel and DC. Dwayne Johnson is the star of DC’s latest blockbuster Black Adam and the man known to wrestling fans as The Rock was asked by Myles Galloway of iHeart Radio if the DC/Marvel war reminds him of the Monday Night Wars of years gone by:

“That’s a great tie in all that. Yeah, Monday Night Wars to this, but I see and understand what you’re saying. There is no war between DC and between MCU. That’s my opinion.”

“I don’t think there’s a war because there’s only one Marvel, there will always be only one Marvel. There’s only one Avengers. But there’s also only one DC. And there’s only one Black Adam and there’s only one Justice League and there’s only one JSA. So I want to continue to build out the DC world.”

“I don’t want to be like Marvel, and I mean that respectfully. I want to be DC. I would love one day for the two brands to converge like we did in wrestling, because that’s how we think, because ultimately what will always guide my hand is taking care of the fans. So the fans to me, if they speak loudly enough because I’m all about listening to the fans with what we deliver, then we should work towards that.”
