Kurt Angle reached the pinnacle of his sport of amateur wrestling in 1996 when he captured an Olympic gold medal at the 1996 Games in Atlanta. Little did he know at the time that his wrestling career was going to go on for decades to come as joined the pros.
Angle debuted for WWE in 1999 and enjoyed a successful seven years with the company where he won everything there was to win including the King of the Ring crown, the European Title, the Intercontinental Title, the WWE Tag Team Championship, the World Heavyweight Title, and the WWE Championship on four separate occasions.
When his time in the company came to an end under something of a cloud in 2006, Kurt Angle was not out of the ring for long. He soon debuted in TNA where he spent the majority of the next decade, sharing the ring with the likes of AJ Styles, Sting, and Samoa Joe. During his time in the company Angle was even a part of Hulk Hogan’s final-ever wrestling match in 2012.
Kurt Angle Wanted A Hefty Price For AEW Matches
Kurt Angle returned to WWE in 2017 when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Later that year he had his first match back in the company when replaced Roman Reigns in The Shield for one night only, teaming with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose to take on the eclectic team of The Bar, The Miz, Braun Strowman, and Kane.
At WrestleMania 35 in 2019, Kurt Angle had the last match of his career when he lost to Baron Corbin. However, he has had offers to return to the ring since then.
Speaking on The Kurt Angle Show, the Olympic gold medallist said he had received an offer from AEW boss Tony Khan to wrestle for the company and revealed the hefty price tag he wanted to make that a reality:
“It’s gonna have to be a substantial amount of money too. I do remember Tony Khan, you know, wanted me to come in and wrestle for him. This was like when they first started. And I said for 10 matches I want 3 million, that’s 300 grand a match.”
