Former WWE Superstar Teddy Hart is one of professional wrestling’s most controversial stars who has a long history of being on the wrong side of the law.

As a member of the famous Hart wrestling family, being the grandson of Stu Hart and the nephew of Bret Hart and Owen Hart, it was not surprising he too became a wrestler. However, his known more for his litany of controversial incidents rather than his once impressive talents.

He first gained recognition for his high-flying and innovative wrestling style in the mid-1990s when he competed in promotions like Stampede Wrestling. In 1998, while still in his teens, he became the youngest person to ever sign a developmental contract with WWE. He was sent to train with Dory Funk, Jr. at the Funkin’ Conservatory, but alleged attitude issues overshadowed his talents and by 2002 he had been released.

After his release, he performed for ROH and TNA, where controversy followed (check out the 2003 ROH Scramble Cage Match incident for more details) before returning to WWE in 2005. In OVW alongside Harry Smith Jr, Natalya, and TJ Wilson they created the Next Generation Hart Foundation. Hart was released from his contract again in 2007. He then wrestled on the independent circuit for several years before returning to MLW in 2017. A two-year spell there came to an ignominious end in 2019 when he was released after failing to appear for shows.

His legal troubles began in 2014 when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced he was wanted on sexual assault charges, however, the charges were dropped two years later. In 2017 he was arrested and was charged with DUI, evading arrest, and auto theft in Arlington, Texas, but these charges were also dropped. In 2020 he was arrested four times for various crimes including possession with intent to supply, breaking the terms of his bail, and allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.
