Shawn Michaels Reveals If Marty Jannetty Would Ever Coach In NXT

Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty in WWE as The Rockers

Shawn Michaels is one of WWE’s most iconic and influential performers. His legendary career inspired generations of future wrestlers and now he is passing on his knowledge to the new crop of Superstars in NXT.

Michaels recently celebrated his 35th year with the company, which began way back in 1987 as one-half of the Rockers alongside Marty Jannetty. The young and exciting duo quickly became fan favourites due to their impressive athleticism and innovative double-team manoeuvres.

In 1991, they executed one of the company’s most memorable angles during a segment known as The Barber Shop hosted by Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake. During the segment, Michaels super-kicked Jannetty and threw him through the Barber Shop window turning heel and ending the team in the process.

After the split, Michaels went on to become one of the most successful wrestlers in WWE history, winning numerous titles and accolades while Jannetty’s career failed to reach the same level of success. However, he went on to mentor and coach the Young Bucks during their time on the independent scene.

Could Shawn Michaels And Marty Jannetty Coach In NXT?

Michaels recently spoke on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, and when asked about his former tag team partner joining him to coach in NXT he replied while he would welcome the idea, the decision would ultimately be up to the head coach of the Performance Center Matt Bloom.

I will say this, on the coaching side, the Performance Center is 100% head coach Matt Bloom. One of the things that we say here in NXT is we all stay in our lane. But obviously any former WWE superstars or guys that have mentored guys in the WWE, we always bring through or at least have an opportunity to bring them through, whether it be on a full-time basis or a part-time basis, just coming in to visit.

So having guys come in and help train our young men and women that come through NXT is always something that we encourage here. So having Marty or anybody come through here, we’re always looking forward to having that happen, but that is something that Matt Bloom handles. He takes care of all the coaching and all the people that come through in that respect. But if Marty were to reach out to Matt, I’m sure that’s something he would do his best to work on.

If it were to happen it wouldn’t be the first time the duo have reunited. Michaels and Jennetty briefly reformed on Raw in 2005, and there were further occasional spots together in 2006 and 2007.
