WWE Waiting To Hold Major Event In India

On December 22, WrestleVotes reported WWE was planning to postpone the scheduled January 18, 2023 event in India for “unspecified reasons.”

As previously reported the event was scheduled to be held at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, India.

Furthermore, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that the event was postponed at the request of WWE’s Indian TV partner, Sony Six, due to an ongoing merger with Zee. Dave Meltzer also that repair because the merger is expected to go through in April, the planned event would take place after April.

The 1/18 show that was scheduled for Hyderabad, India where Sony Six (WWE’s television partner) was bringing in WWE for a big live event to be built around the Indian talent and some of the other major stars, is now off. The decision was made by Sony Six, which is merging with Zee in India, to hold off the show until the merger is finalized. The merger is expected to go through in April, so the show would take place after April.

WWE held Superstar Spectacle in 2021 inside the WWE ThunderDome, during the global pandemic. The show specifically catered to the Indian audience and at the time, there were rumors of a potential launch for an NXT India brand. Since that time, some of the competitors that were featured in that event, like Kavita Devi and The Bollywood Boyz, have been released. Veer and Sanga are currently paired on the NXT roster.

Inside The Ropes will continue to report any and all updates on this forthcoming show.
