“I Was Surprised With How P*ssed People Were” – Cody Rhodes Reflects On WrestleMania

Roman Reigns & Cody Rhodes

At WrestleMania 39 Cody Rhodes challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship. However, despite declaring he would “finish the story” he was unable to dethrone the Tribal Chief in a result that many fans confused and angry.

In the lead-up to the main event title bout, Cody Rhodes stated he would win the title to honour his father the late, great Dusty Rhodes, which led both fans and pundits alike to assume that the American Nightmare would be one to finally knock Reigns off the top of the WWE mountain.

After a gripping thirty-plus-minute battle it seemed Rhodes had the match won, but interference from Solo Sikoa saw Roman Reigns continue his historic title run. The outcome of the match was met with a wave of shock, disbelief and displeasure from spectators.

Cody Rhodes Explained His Surprise To The Fan Backlash To His WrestleMania Loss

Rhodes was a guest on the recent edition of the SI Media podcast and revealed how he was taken aback by the fan reaction.

“I was surprised at how pissed people were. A lot of managerial people in the company reached out to me, checking on me, and also reached out to me to let me know, ‘don’t go online. Don’t go online.’ I didn’t even think to go. It’s such an incredibly busy week, there are so many emotions in that experience, I have my family with me, I lost in front of them, which is another level of embarrassment. I didn’t even think to go online. Just the fact that they were preparing me or battening down the hatches. ‘This is shaky, people are really frustrated,’ that surprised me. That surprised me a lot,” he said.

Since failing to defeat Reigns at WrestleMania, Rhodes has admitted that the loss “sucked”.
