As Jeff Jarrett heads towards 40 years of in-ring competition it is safe to say he wrestled some of the very best the industry has to offer.
Jarrett began his wrestling career in 1986, working for his father’s promotion, CWA, which later became part of the USWA. He quickly rose through the ranks and won several championships, including the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship multiple times.
In 1993, Jarrett made his way to the WWE where became known for his country music-inspired character as Double J. During his WWF tenure, he held the Intercontinental Championship twice and had memorable feuds with the likes of Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels.
After a brief stint at WCW, he returned to WWE and captured the Tag Team Championships with Owen Hart and the IC title another three times during a feud with Chyna. In 1999 he jumped ship to WCW where he joined the stable nWo 2000 and captured the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship and the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
After WCW’s demise in 2001, he launched TNA Wrestling, with his father, Jerry Jarrett where he became a top star and held the NWA World Heavyweight Championship multiple times. Jarrett has also wrestled for several other promotions such as AAA, NJPW, and currently AEW.
Jeff Jarrett Revealed His Favourite Opponents
Speaking on his podcast My World With Jeff Jarrett, Jarrett revealed his Mt Rushmore of wrestling opponents.
“Kurt [Angle], Shawn [Michaels], [Jerry] Lawler. Scott Hall.”
After listing his favourite adversaries, his co-host Conrad Thomson brought up Chyna as one of the best opponents during their 1999 feud, which led to the first-ever Good Housekeeping match at No Mercy. It was a history-making match that crowned Chyna as the first and only woman to hold the IC title thus cementing her as the most revolutionary woman in the industry.
Jarret agreed with Thomson before recalling the importance of the match.
The significance of a man versus a woman. And I’m not saying we were the first but on that stage for a major men’s title. Yeah. Well said, Connie.” He continued, “You think of the Intercontinental champion’s historical perspective, [Macho Man Randy] Savage, Bret [Hart], I mean, you know, what a lineage. Yeah, I’m with you.
