“I Know Some People In WWE Absolutely Do Not Want CM Punk There” – Dave Meltzer

CM Punk

Back in October it was reported that CM Punk was in talks with AEW regarding a buy-out of his contract. Should a deal be reached it would bring to an end one of the most high-profile, and explosive runs for a major star in one of North America’s ‘big two’ promotions in recent history.

This news was followed by a further report suggesting that there could be a place for CM Punk in WWE under the right circumstances. Another incredible turn of events considering the nature of his departure back in 2014.

Not Everyone In WWE Wants CM Punk Back

However, a potential move for Punk back to WWE appears to be far from straightforward, as some within the company are wary over how his AEW run has seemingly ended.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that there are those who don’t want Punk back. Although, these people are not on the creative team.

“I know people in WWE who absolutely do not want him (Punk) there, but they are not the people on the creative team.

“Everyone knows what happened in AEW, it’s like, ‘Do we really want that? Do we need that? No we don’t need that, we don’t really want that’.

“But at the end of the day, it’s not their decision. It’s the decision of Nick Khan and Stephanie and Paul (Triple H).

“Paul may just go in there and go, ‘Look what happened, we don’t need it’. And they don’t. They don’t need it, and he may just do that.

“If it was Vince, Vince would do it I think, with that kind of money at stake.”

It is believed that the hold-up on a potential deal between AEW and CM Punk is the length of his non-compete clause. The former AEW World Champion is currently recuperating after undergoing surgery to repair torn triceps suffered in his match against Jon Moxley at AEW All Out.
