What remains for WWE fans during night two of WrestleMania

Night One of WrestleMania 39 has come to an end, but the action is far from over for the WWE Universe. Night Two begins tomorrow night (or later today, depending on where you’re watching from), and the following matches have been announced:

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes
  • Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Asuka
  • Intercontinental Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus
  • Hell in a Cell: Edge vs. Finn Balor
  • Brock Lesnar vs. Omos
  • Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez vs. Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler vs. Natalya & Shotzi vs. Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville

After tonight, The Bloodline looks to be in major jeopardy after The Usos succumbed to defeat at the hands of Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn. Cody Rhodes will now get his opportunity to “finish the story” and effectively end The Bloodline when he challenges Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

List of title changes during night one of WrestleMania 39

The dust has settled, and we now await the second night of WrestleMania. In the meantime, let’s look back at the unforgettable moments that Night One provided us, including the major Championship changes that took place tonight.

As noted in our earlier coverage, Rhea Ripley managed to defeat Charlotte Flair in their one-on-one match with the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line. She is now the only woman ever to hold the NXT UK Women’s Championship, the NXT Women’s Championship, the Raw Women’s Championship, and the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She’s also a former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion with former partner Nikki Cross.

The main event of the night also resulted in a title change; Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn finally overcame The Usos, capturing the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships in the process. This marks the first time either man has held tag team gold in WWE.

Austin Theory was the one Champion that successfully defended his Championship on tonight’s show, retaining the United States Title in his bout with John Cena.

The Usos vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships

Jimmy specifically tags in Jey so that he can go one-on-one with Sami Zayn first. They exchange holds until Jey Uso rushes in with a shoulder tackle. They collect themselves and go back into a lock up. Sami rains down punches on Jey Uso, but they get back to their feet shortly after and Jimmy tags himself in. He pulls the top rope down as Sami is running them, forcing him out of the ring. They team up on Zayn, with Jey connecting with a suicide dive on Zayn. Owens knows that if he comes over, The Usos will group up on him next, so he keeps some distance. Jey with a suplex on Sami on the floor.

Back inside the ring, Jey gets the referee’s attention as Jimmy gets a cheap shot in. He then tags in and keeps up with more stomps on Zayn. Owens wants in this match but The Usos have been cutting off their corner this entire time. Sami begins fighting back, sorting out a way to get The Usos off the apron. He tags in Kevin Owens in and KO comes in hot, climbing to the top rope and hitting a senton splash to the outside. He goes for a frog splash, too, on Jimmy! He does another one on Jey, the legal man, but only gets a two count in the ring. Control changes again as Jey secures a neckbreaker and a two-count on Owens.

Jey and Owens battle as they’re perched on the top rope. Jimmy Uso tags in. Owens thinks Jey is still the legal man and goes for a swanton, but he’s stopped by the knees coming up into his abdomen. Jimmy follows up off the top rope with an Uso splash, but Owens is still in this! Owens avoids a corner splash and connects with his own cannonball in the corner. He climbs up to the top but is temporarily stopped by Jey. Sami takes care of him, hitting a brainbuster DDT on the apron. KO then connects with the swanton bomb on Jimmy but only gets a two count on him.

Sami Zayn tags in and does the “we the ones” pose on the top rope. He performs an Uso splash! But it only gives him the two count! The crowd chants, “Ole! Ole! Ole! Ole!” as Sami goes for a blue thunder bomb. Jimmy avoids it and tags in Jey. He changes his strategy and does hit the blue thunder bomb on Jimmy, but the change-up in legal man takes him off, and Sami gets hit with a stiff superkick. Jey is getting heated now, tossing his tank top at Sami and tagging in Jimmy so they can hit tandem superkicks on him. Owens saves his team from the 3 count. They attack Owens, too, sending him out of the ring. Jey and Jimmy with a double superkick to the back of Sami’s head for a 2 and 7/8ths count.

Jimmy tags in now, and they do another tandem superkick. It’s still a two-count, though, so The Usos do another tag into Jey. They attempt the 1D, but Owens pulls Jimmy out of the ring and slams his head over and over into the announce table. He pulls him atop the table and goes for a powerbomb, but Jey stops his momentum. The Usos team up to pick Owens high up in the air and toss him down into an announce table. They hit the 1D on Zayn, but it’s not the end! It’s the first time someone has ever kicked out of it!

Jey asks if Sami just wants to quit now. He slaps him in the face and hits him with stiff forearms as Sami starts stumbling in the corner. Jey watches on as he struggles. When Zayn gets up, Jey steals Zayn’s finishing move and connects with the Helluva Kick. Zayn comes back though! He hits and exploder suplex into the bottom turnbuckle! Owens makes it up to the apron as Sami is desperately crawling over. The tag is made and Owens is in! Pop-up powerbomb to both The Usos. Zayn with a Helluva kick on Jimmy. Owens with a Stunner on Jey! But no, The Usos are still in this. It was only two, folks!

The crowd chants “this is awesome” as each man crawls to their feet. They come face-to-face as they crowd goes wild! They start throwing punches! Superkick to Jimmy and Jey from KO. Jimmy stole a tag and now The Usos are hitting multiple tandem superkicks on KO and Sami. They put Kevin in position and both climb to opposite ends of the ring. Double Uso splash! But, holy s***, Kevin didn’t stay down for 3!

Jimmy and Jey are shocked, but they won’t give up yet. They set Owens up in the corner and Jimmy gets tagged in. Synced up superkicks follow, but Sami tosses Jimmy over the Spanish announce table. Owens hits an avalanche twisting fishermen suplex and tags Sami in! Three Helluva Kicks to Jey and one stunner to Jimmy gets KO and Sami exactly where they want to be. Sami pins a downed Jey for the 3 count! We’ve got new tag team champions! Perhaps, more importantly, The Bloodline begins to fall!

Dave Meltzer

Dave Meltzer has major praise for WrestleMania 39 Match

As noted in the coverage earlier tonight, Rhea Ripley is your new WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship after a stellar match against Charlotte Flair. We here at Inside the Ropes aren’t the only ones celebrating the hard-hitting, thrilling match; Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter was also a big fan.

Dave took to Twitter this evening and applauded Charlotte Flair and Ripley on their performances, ranking the match among the best of all time.

“Ripley won via riptide off the middle rope. This was a super match. Among the best women’s matches in WWE history.”

Jey Uso

The main event entrances come with a celebrity appearance

Lil Uzi Vert makes a special appearance and performs live, singing/rapping an introduction for The Usos. The Bloodline is decked out in red and white gear tonight.

Meanwhile, Kevin Owens keeps things more traditional with his entrance. Sami Zayn does the same. They evoke passion from the audience and set their sights on the battle, representing their characters to a tee.

Pat McAfee

Pat McAfee vs. The Miz

McAfee grabs a mic and tells the “beautiful people” hello. He says hello to Snoop Dogg and The Miz, and says he speaks for everyone when he says that nobody saw the alleged “open challenge” he set up. The good news is that McAfee has his WrestleMania tank top on, so if Miz still wants a match, McAfee wants to beat his a** right here, right now.

The Miz asks the crowd if they want it, but he can’t make matches official since he’s the host of WrestleMania. McAfee says The Miz’s tiny balls are showing, inspiring a “tiny balls” chant from the crowd. Snoop Dogg says he thinks he’s able to make a match like that happen, so let’s get it going.

The Miz and Snoop exchange some words, with Snoop saying he doesn’t wrestle! He raps. The bell rings, and McAfee immediately hits some strikes and a spinebuster. He follows it up by placing Miz on the top rope, but his attempt at a superplex is thwarted. McAfee gets pushed off but does a backflip and lands on his feet. Miz comes off the top rope but is caught with a superkick, which sends him out of the ring. He pushes one of the NFL San Francisco 49’er in the front row, which inspires him to jump over the barricade and get involved. Pat with a huge senton splash off the top rope and a hard punt to the face for the 3.

Austin Theory

Austin Theory is interviewed backstage

Byron Saxton asks Austin Theory where his head is at after defeating John Cena. He replies that he made Cena believe it and now everyone else needs to believe it!

It’s announced by the Miz that there are 80,497 people attending WrestleMania for night one! Snoop Dogg says the only thing that would be better than that would be if Miz had a match tonight. The Miz agrees, saying he posted all over social media and gave an open challenge. However, no one responded because they were “scared.”

Pat McAfee shows up! And he’s going to apparently wrestle The Miz next!

Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women's Championship

Fun fact, when you include the referee, this is the first match in ‘Mania history where everyone involved is a woman.

The bell rings! Rhea and Charlotte stare each other down, taking their time to dive in. This has that big fight feel oozing out of it! They lock up, but Charlotte stays in control with some quick reversals into other holds. Rhea nails a shoulder tackle, but Charlotte comes back shortly after with her own shoulder tackle. A clothesline from Charlotte sends Rhea outside the ring. They slide back inside and exchange heated words, but that transitions into Rhea tackling Charlotte in the corner.

Charlotte spills out to the apron and boots Rhea in the face. “The Queen” up to the top rope with a crossbody splash, but Rhea responds with some elbow strikes. Rhea comes through with a reverse electric chair drop into the top turnbuckle. “Mami” isn’t done – she keeps coming with hard stomps, followed by a throw that tosses Charlotte face-first into the bottom turnbuckle.

Rhea stays on the attack and locks in a body scissors in the middle of the ring. It takes a while, but Charlotte answers with a few forearms. Charlotte with a rollup for the two. Ripley won’t be slowed down, hitting multiple stiff forearms on Charlotte’s back to break her. Release German suplex from Rhea for another two count. So far, these two are giving us the kind of wrestling match we expected from exceptional in-ring workers!

Ripley, still in control, delivers a few short arm clotheslines to “The Queen.” Another one is reversed into a spinning back elbow, followed by a neckbreaker combination. Charlotte chops away at Rhea, forcing her to buckle under her own weight. A forearm keeps Charlotte in control; she climbs to the top rope as dual chants of “Let’s go, Rhea!” and “Let’s go, Charlotte!” ring out. Charlotte leaps from the top, but Rhea catches her and goes for the Riptide. Charlotte nails a DDT for a close two-count. The 14-time Women’s Champion is beginning to get frustrated.

Charlotte keeps trying for the Figure 8 but can’t lock it in. Rhea with an inside cradle for the two count, but right after, they both kick each other in the face at the same time. Slowly getting back to their feet, they trade shots as the cheers and boos ring through the crowd. Charlotte goes to the top rope for a moonsault but is caught by Rhea, who gives her a German suplex off the top! It only gives a close two count! That looked gnarly!!

Charlotte regains control with a chop block and the Natural Selection for another close two. Another close match is unfolding before our eyes! Again, they’re slow to their feet, but when they’re back up, Charlotte and Rhea begin battling on the outside. Rhea sidesteps Charlotte, which sends her into the steel steps. Back in the ring, an attempt at the Riptide is reversed into a German suplex from Charlotte. She goes for another, eventually hitting it and then holding onto her grip. Ripley elbows her to escape and then hits her own German suplex. Charlotte lands forehead-first! OUCH! That was a bad one. The bridge of her nose is clearly wounded from that collision.

Once again, The Queen goes for the figure 8 but she can’t get it locked in. Rhea is on the apron and gets booted off. Charlotte climbs the top rope for her signature moonsault off the top rope down to Ripley. She gets all of it! Charlotte tosses her back into the ring and goes for the Figure 8 again. She can’t get it! A missed spear almost takes out the ref, but it isn’t so. This allows Rhea to hit a headbutt and the Riptide. It’s only a two-count! This is wild!

Charlotte tries to roll Rhea up and gets a 2 and 7/8 count! Rhea turns it into the modified Texas Cloverleaf, but Charlotte still makes it to the ropes. A spear from Charlotte! But no, it’s still a 2! The Queen is nearly in tears! She says, “Do you want my place?!” And they start throwing hard shots at one another as the crowd cheers and boos. Charlotte with a stiff kick and a figure 4. Rhea is immediately at the rope, and it’s broken up! On the apron, Charlotte tosses Rhea into the ring post and tries to bring her to the top rope for a fall away slam. Rhea reverses and it allows her to hit her Riptide off the top rope for the 3 count. We’ve got a new SmackDown Women’s Champion!!!

Two huge matches remain for Night One of WrestleMania 39

Charlotte Flair defending the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley is up next! Followed by the main event featuring The Usos vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles.

Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio

The match begins with Dom pushing Rey’s chest with force. They stare down and head into a lockup. Dom poses for the crowd as he gets booed, allowing Rey to take advantage and quick-step Dom out of the ring. He gets frustrated and pushes Rey again, followed by a shoulder tackle. Rey does his own posing for the crowd and is warmly applauded. Rey reverses a tackle from Dom in the turnbuckles, allowing him to take off his belt and give his boy some well-deserved spankings with the belt!

Dom comes to ringside and throws a drink in his sister’s face, inspiring Rey to run over and try to hold her back from attacking Dom. Dom takes advantage at that point and clubs down Rey. Back in the ring, Dom does more posing and ties Rey in an abdominal stretch. Dominik off the ropes with a deep arm drag a la Eddie Guerrero, followed by a Michinoku Driver for a close 2 count. He stays on the attack, draping Rey’s head over the top rope and coming back over to stare down his mother and sister. Angie slaps Dom in the face, allowing Rey to connect with a right hand on his face.

Rey with a seated senton and a springboard crossbody for the two count. Dom comes back with a kick and tries to run into Rey in the corner, but “The Biggest Little Man” reverses into a sunset flip for a two-count. Suddenly, Judgment Day is showing up at ringside! Damian Priest and Finn Balor are here! Dom throws Rey into the bottom turnbuckle face-first as the commentators shudder from the impact.

The match continues on, with Dom going for the three amigos like Eddie would, but that’s when Rey reverses and sends him into the ropes for the 619! He climbs to the top but Judgment Day distracts the referee long enough that they can get involved in the bout and knock Rey off the top. Rey Irish whipped into the corner, but he still climbs on Dom’s shoulders and sends them both tumbling out of the ring. Legado del Fantasma is here! There’s a huge brawl between both factions unfolding before our eyes! Inside the ring, Dom nails a clothesline on Rey, followed by a catapult into the ropes. The insult to injury follows – Dom with a 619 and a frog splash for the 2 count! Rey is still in it!

Dom is desperate now, untying the top turnbuckle to expose the steel. As the ref has his back turned to fix it, he grabs a steel chain from the corner of the ring. Bad Bunny came to the rescue and grabbed it out of his hands. This allows Rey to hit the 6-1-9 and a frog splash for the 3 count. Rey did it!

Dominik Mysterio

Rey & Dominik Mysterio receive their special entrances

Dominik enters the arena from the back of a corrections officer van, wearing a copy of Rey Mysterio’s mask before he takes it off halfway down the ramp. The officers escorting him down to the ring uncuff his handcuffs so he can enter the ring. Front row, his mother and sister are watching along.

Rey Mysterio is driven out to the arena by Snoop Dogg in a classic low rider. Eddie Guerrero’s music plays as the crowd goes wild! It turns into his Booyaka 619 theme song as he poses and makes his way down to the ring.

Ahead of his scheduled hosting gig this May at WWE Backlash in Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny stopped by WrestleMania once again to do Spanish commentary during the Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio match.

Lita, Trish Stratus, & Becky Lynch vs. Damage CTRL (Bayley, Iyo Sky, & Dakota Kai)

All six women start brawling before the bell can actually ring. Becky comes running into a baseball slide, knocking Dakota Kai down on the outside. The bell rings, but Dakota takes over with a scorpion kick and a tag to Iyo. Iyo lays in on the offense, hitting a stiff springboard dropkick that gives her a 2 count on Lynch. Damage CTRL trade tags so they can work as a trio, following it up with another 2 count from Dakota to Becky. Dakota nails a running pump kick on Lynch’s face in the corner, but only another two-count results.

Damage CTRL keeps control, but Becky Lynch manages to hit a double clothesline on Dakota and Iyo. Becky tries to get to Lita, but she keeps getting held off. Lita knocks Dakota Kai off the apron and tags in! Lita has still got it! She hits her signature hurricanrana and her new mover, Vertigo, for a close two count. Lita is bringing out unique offense we’ve rarely seen before!

Damage CTRL takes back over and all trade tags so they can hit a triple kick on Lita. It only gives them a two count though, which frustrates Bayley further. Damage CTRL is cutting Lita off from the other side of the ring, pushing her into the ropes neck-first for another two count. She’s trying to get over to Trish, but it’s just not happening right now. A three-way tag happens again, with Iyo and Bayley trying to give Lita a double suplex. She reverses, hits a double DDT, and gets the hot tag on Trish!

Trish hits a Thez press and some chops on Dakota, followed by a head scissors/bulldog maneuver. She follows with a neckbreaker that gives her a close 2 count. Dakota hits Trish with an elbow and climbs to the top rope. Trish tries for the Stratusphere but is thwarted away. With the help of Lita and Becky, she still hits a Stratusphere on the outside, sending Dakota tumbling into her own teammates. Trish and Lita team up for a poetry in motion, followed by a leg drop from Lynch. She only gets a two count, so she tries a Disarm-her on Dakota. Bayley and Iyo come to break it up and pull Dakota into their corner so they can stay in control. A series of reversals leads into a Rose Plant from Bayley, but Lita breaks up a close two count to keep things going. They all trade finishing maneuvers until it’s only Iyo left in the ring. She climbs to the top rope and performs a stunning moonsault from the top rope onto all the women on the outside of the ring.

Everyone climbs into the ring just before the ten count ends. Everyone with quick tags so they can be in the ring at the same time. Lita hits a twist of fate on Iyo. Trish Stratus with a Chick Kick on Dakota. Lita with her moonsault on both women! Lastly, Bayley hits the Manhandle slam off the top rope for the 1-2-3! That’s it, y’all!

Trish Stratus, Becky Lynch, and Lita have an entrance straight out of Sin City

Damage CTRL definitely brought their A-Game with their style tonight, but it was Becky, Trish, and Lita that came with a special entrance. A video package was shown before they enter, presenting the story as though it was from a comic book. Their entrance was then in black and white with augmented rain falling down, like something out of 2005’s “Sin City” film.

Logan Paul

Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul

The stadium continues singing Rollins’ theme as the bell rings, and we get it going! They chain wrestle for a bit until Rollins connects with a shoulder tackle and attempts a quick stomp finisher. More reversals give Logan the advantage after he tosses Seth out of the ring. Rollins comes in and starts throwing hands now, but Logan hits a maverick lariat (buckshot lariat). He follows up with straight punches at Rollins’ abdomen and face.

The YouTuber stays on the offense, turning some forearms into a side Russian leg sweep followed by a sitting version of the octopus submission hold. The crowd rallies behind Rollins, inspiring him to escape. They trade chops and elbows until Logan secures a gut-wrench suplex for another two count on Seth. It’s been quite the one-sided match so far, but Rollins finally has a window to take advantage by avoiding a top rope moonsault.

Rollins unloads his own shots into Logan’s face and abdomen. Clotheslines follow as Seth says, “Come on, b***!” Rollins tosses Logan out of the ring and stays on the attack with three suicide dives back to back! Something sadistic comes to Rollins’ mind – he stomps Paul’s hand into the ring steps. Back inside the ring, Rollins attempts a pedigree but is reversed. They trade pin attempts until Paul connects with a knockout punch that crumbles Rollins to the mat. 1-2-NO! Rollins kicks out.

They hesitate to get back into things, but suddenly, Rollins hits a sit-out powerbomb for a two count. KSI from YouTube fame is dressed up in the Prime costume! It distracts Rollins long enough that Logan can throw Rollins into the post. They set up Rollins for a splash through the announce table off the top rope, but Rolins pulls KSI into it, forcing him to take the splash from the top rope. Rollins is in control! He got the pedigree, but it’s not over yet! Paul kicks out at two!

The crowd roars on, singing Rollins’ theme song. Seth connects with a forearm to the back of Paul’s head. He tries for the stomp but gets caught in a Go To Sleep that lays Rollins out on the mat. Paul climbs to the top rope and hits a giant frog splash but only gets two! This one is so close! Paul attempts his coast-to-coast finisher, but he gets hit with a superkick and the stomp! That’s it! Rollins is your winner!

Seth Rollins & Logan Paul entrances

Logan Paul’s entrance is extravagant, as one would expect from the flashy YouTube star. He rides in a harness over the crowd, eventually landing in the ring. His sports drink, Prime, is advertised with a man in a costume of the bottle. They come down the ramp together as the announcer introduces him.

Seth Rollins has an over-the-top entrance of his own, bringing in a conductor to guide the entrance in singing his theme song. The crowd sings along until, alas, the fire bursts from the stage, and Seth’s theme starts. He is dressed to the nines! His robe looks like what Rihanna wore at the Superbowl. Oh wow, he also has a pink harness on that gives a throwback to something Jeff Jarrett used to wear. His tights are pink, too!

Honestly, just these entrances are entertaining as hell right now.

Xavier Woods

Xavier Woods and 2K23 predict Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul

With the simulation from 2K23, Rollins came out on top as the winner. Will the same happen tonight?! Rollins vs. Paul is next up!

Ricochet & Braun Strowman vs. The Viking Raiders vs. The Street Profits vs. Chad Gable & Otis

The bell rings, and the action gets underway with Ricochet vs. Chad Gable. A quick rollup doesn’t do much, leading the two into quick reversals back and forth. Gable with a backslide and the two evade each other more until Otis tags himself in a pummels Ricochet. Strowman is tagged in and comes face-to-face with Otis and Gable. Now, everyone comes into the ring and start brawling all over the place!

Erik with a knee on Strowman, followed by a kick from Ivar. They turn Ricochet inside out with a tandem clothesline and a ragnarok double powerbomb. Strowman halts their momentum with a double clothesline. Gable attempts a German suplex on Strowman, but it doesn’t happen. He still finds a way! Gable hits a rolling German Suplex on the giant Braun Strowman, causing the crowd to go wild.

Gable attempts a flying headbutt but misses. Dawkins comes in but misses an attempt at a swanton bomb. Ivar tags in and goes for a moonsault but he misses Dawkins completely! Now, Strowman is going to the top rope! Oh my God! A huge splash off the top from Braun onto Ivar. Everyone breaks up the count. Suddenly, Otis hits Braun with the world’s strongest slam on Braun. Everyone sets up in the corner for a multi-man move that is INSANE! A superplex with double electric chair drops and a splash all at once. You have to see it!

Braun hits the Strowman Express two different times on the men surrounding the ring. Though, on the second time around the ring, Dawkins interrupts with a tackle to Braun. Ricochet comes out of nowhere to the outside with a giant shooting star press! Ford hits the frog splash, and Dawkins covers Ricochet for a three-count! What a wild match.

Titus ONeil

The four-way tag team match is next!

Austin Theory

Austin Theory puts away the legendary John Cena

Starting out, Cena is able to get an advantage with his power. The 16-time WWE Champion continues with the advantage, backing Theory into the corner and pushing the 4 count to break it up. A collar and elbow tie-up turns into some dirt tactics from Theory. He bites at Cena’s ear and uses Cena’s confusion to take over. Theory gets a two-count. A vertical suplex gets him another two count. Cena gets a vertical suplex of his own, followed by a series of strikes.

Theory counters and hits John with a jumping blockbuster for another two. Theory poses on the top rope as the crowd boos. He comes back with a picture-perfect rolling dropkick, but it still isn’t enough. He’s going to have to do much more to put Cena away! He goes for another dropkick, but Cena turns it into his signature STF submission. Theory goes back to the dirty tactics and bites John’s hand to escape.

They progress with Theory throwing some punches and stomps at Cena. Another stomp from Theory is reversed into an attempt at the AA, but Theory reverses with a DDT for another two-count. The crowd is amped up now! Theory wastes too much time posing and misses Cena, allowing John to unload some offense. Theory regains the advantage with a sleeper hold, incapacitating John down to a single knee. Cena pushes Theory into the turnbuckles to escape, followed by his signature shoulder tackles, spin-out suplex, and the five-knuckle shuffle. He goes for an AA again, but Theory holds onto the ropes. The referee gets knocked out by Theory’s feet, so when John connects with the STF and sees Theory tapping out, he still doesn’t get the official victory. Theory hits Cena with a low blow and the A-Town Down to retain the U.S. Championship and defeat John Cena.

Austin Theory vs. John Cena for the WWE United States Championship

The action gets started with Theory vs. Cena for the U.S. Title. Theory has a unique entrance but nothing too flashy; however, he’s looking as jacked as ever. Before Cena comes out, a video package is shown that celebrates John Cena and WWE for their partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Cena makes his entrance amongst a group of kids with the Make-A-Wish Foundation that asked to attend ‘Mania someday. They are shocked! Cena tells the kids to have fun as he has to go to work. He starts running down to the ring as the crowd cheers loudly. The bell rings, and here we go! It’s the first match of WrestleMania 39!

The Miz, along with Snoop Dogg, welcome us to WrestleMania 39

The host of ‘Mania, The Miz, welcomes the Los Angeles crowd to WrestleMania. He explains that he and Snoop are the perfect tag team to welcome everyone to the show because Snoop is the king of hip hop and he was in WrestleMania The Musical earlier. They were both in movies, and they both are former champions. Snoop says it’s true that they have a lot of similarities.

The Miz hypes the crowd up as he reviews some of the evening matches. Snoop Dogg says it’s time to “fire it up” as Austin Theory makes his entrance!

We see an epic intro video for the show, with actor/comedian Kevin Hart as the narrator. Some of the greatest moments in WrestleMania history flash across the screen before clips of the upcoming matches are shown.

The kickoff panel discusses Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. The Usos

Wade Barrett points out how Owens and Zayn have had such a tumultuous relationship, which may play a big factor into tonight’s main event. Booker, in particular, thinks it’s a beautiful thing that they could let go of the past and reunite. This could be a big WrestleMania moment, according to Booker.

Peter Rosenberg says he supports The Bloodline because he has a huge amount of respect for the group. He thinks it’s incredible that Roman is headlining his third WrestleMania as the top Champion and The Usos are on a HoF run.

Wade Barrett believes that The Usos will retain tonight. For Booker, he thinks Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will pull off the victory. Rosenberg names The Usos as his pick for the winner.

We see the final video hype package of the night, focusing on The Bloodline story that’s unfolded over the past year. The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships is set to headline tonight’s show.

It was as odd as it sounds. The Miz, accompanied by Maryse, sang a song loaded with references to the many years of WrestleMania. The panel was amused by it, commenting on The Miz’s talent as they go over the WrestleMania card once more.

Update on Bobby Lashley's WrestleMania Status

A new update from Fightful Select indicates that the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy that Bobby Lashley won on last night’s SmackDown has been brought to the SoFi Stadium. This gives a hint that Lashley will be involved in tonight’s show in some way.

As noted, after SmackDown last week, Lashley presented a challenge to the WWE roster for anyone who was brave enough to face him at “The Grandest Stage of them All.”

Byron Saxton introduces representatives from non-profit organizations

Byron appears with a microphone, introducing three nonprofit organizations that are working in tandem with WWE, including The Urban Scholar Academy, The Downtown Women’s Center, and U.S. Vets Inglewood. The people there to represent each nonprofit received commemorative WWE championship belts. But Byron has a big announcement now, and WWE, in conjunction with C4, will be providing grants to strengthen these organizations.

Seth Rollins

Ryan Garcia visits the kickoff panel to discuss Logan Paul vs. Seth Rollins

Ryan Garcia, a professional fighter, says that Logan Paul has shown up as a fighter and seems to be doing the same with pro wrestling. Garcia admits that his favorite wrestler is Rey Mysterio, and he’s extremely excited to see him in the ring tonight.

Booker asks him about his upcoming fight, and Garcia says that he’s willing to do anything to win and his opponent, Gervonta Davis, better be ready. Though he’s never been a pro wrestler, Garcia gives some tips on how to approach the pressure of battling in the ring. He comments on how Paul did knock Seth out, but it wasn’t an official match, so it’s unclear who will win.

The panel doesn’t make predictions for this one.

The kickoff panel shows off the new WWE Elite Series action figures

The panel discusses action figures, with Wade Barrett saying one of his major goals in becoming a WWE Superstar was getting his own action figure. Booker points out how he has an extensive collection of his own figures at this point.

This leads us to a video package highlighting Logan Paul vs. Seth Rollins later this evening.

Kickoff panel predicts who wins Damage CTRL vs. Lita, Trish Stratus, & Becky Lynch

The panel continues their discussions, this time focusing on the six-women tag team match that includes undeniable legends in Stratus and Lita. They see this as a special moment because these women are jumping right back in the mix and are featured at WWE’s grandest show of the year.

In the case of Damage CTRL, the panel sees this as a crucial opportunity for upstarts Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky to make a name for themselves.

Wade Barrett predicts Damage CTRL as the winners of the match. As for Booker, he believes Becky, Lita, & Trish will win. Lastly, Rosenberg thinks Damage CTRL will go over.

Johnny Knoxville is interviewed backstage

Johnny Knoxville appears, saying that Sami Zayn is still a snake and that the only place he would want to bury the hatchet is in the back of Sami. He thinks Kevin Owens will be dragged down in this process, and even though he’s acting like a good guy, Knoxville is not convinced.

Kickoff panel highlights the four-way tag team showcase match

The kickoff panel pivots their attention to the upcoming four-way between Ricochet/Braun Strowman vs. Chad Gable & Otis vs. The Viking Raiders vs. The Street Profits. Booker sees a similarity between his connection with Goldust back in the day and the current connection between Ricochet and Braun Strowman. They think the two found one another at the right time because they needed a new direction in their career.

Wade Barrett chooses the Viking Raiders as the winners. Booker T chooses The Street Profits. Meanwhile, Peter Rosenberg chooses The Street Profits, as well.

Stephen A. Smith makes kickoff guest panel appearance

Stephen Smith from ESPN says he’s been watching WWE since the 80s and has a lot of respect for Booker T. He says he loves The Rock, John Cena, and Goldberg was one of his absolute favorites. His love for Goldberg has the audience booing a bit. Smith says he’s allergic to scrubs and only goes to big time events; that’s why he’s at WrestleMania tonight.

Smith says pro wrestling has grown so much since WrestleMania 3 when Hulk Hogan slammed Andre the Giant. He says once you’ve made it to ‘Mania, you’re a star forever. People like John Cena and The Rock show that if you show out the way you should, you can become a legend.

He continues on, saying he would probably never step into the ring and compete for himself, but he is interested in being a manager someday. Smith gives props to Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. This leads him into an impression of “The Nature Boy,” Ric Flair, and says that Ric texts him about his work on ESPN a lot.

Rafael quickly goes on a rant about how if Dominik Mysterio disrespected his mother in Mexico, he would be dead right now! They pull his attention back to the panel, and Rafael says he’s hyped for Rey to kick Dom’s ass. The crowd starts chanting about Booker T and Wade Barrett, visually making Rafael a bit uncomfortable. He says that this situation between Dom and Rey is how Mexican people deal with their problems, and we’re going to get to see it all on the stage.

We look back at the lifelong story between Rey and his son, Dominik Mysterio. They were the first father/son tag team champions and have been close their entire lives. But that all changed when he joined The Judgment Day, leading us to where we are tonight.

Maria makes a guest appearance, saying she’s always felt welcome by WWE and the women in the locker room. Moreover, she emphasizes that she was the first WWE Champion of Hollywood before it became popular as it is today. She recalls some funny interactions with Ric Flair and how she likes to confront him with quotes from Dusty Rhodes.

If she has to make a prediction about Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair, Maria thinks it’s going to be Rhea. However, the match she’s looking to most is Brock Lesnar vs. Omos in a clash of titans. She thinks Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are taking down The Usos, and as for Rey Mysterio, he’s gonna “whoop his son’s ass.”

Gabriel Iglesias makes a guest panel appearance

On the kickoff show, comedian and actor Gabriel Iglesias cheers on his hometown of Los Angeles as the panel greets him. “Fluffy” says Austin Theory vs. Cena is a classic generation vs. new generation, and sometimes, the new guys need to get taught a lesson about the legends.

Peter Rosenberg makes the connection about how Cena confronted Kurt Angle on his first night on television, and it was a similar situation with how Theory confronted Cena leading up to this match.

Iglesias praises the induction of Rey Mysterio into the WWE HoF, making a joke that he was amazed they even let Konnan in the building. He says there’s good reason Rey is in the Hall of Fame, and he’s always been one of his favorite WWE stars. Furthermore, he says the match he’s most looking forward to is Dominik vs. Rey.

Iglesias continues on with a prediction that Rhea Ripley will be able to overcome Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship tonight. When it comes to Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes, Iglesias also sees a title change happening.

Wade picks Austin Theory as the winner of his match. Booker picks John Cena as his choice. For Rosenberg, he believes Cena will be the winner. Iglesias thinks the same and says the only other man that can make jorts cool will win: John Cena.

Earlier tonight, it was revealed by prominent wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer that Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens challenging The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships will be the main event for Night One of WrestleMania. Which match would take the top spot was in question due to rumors that Rhea Ripley challenging Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship would be the main event for night one.

Fightful Select echoed those statements, saying that in the weeks leading up to ‘Mania, staff has been told that Owens and Zayn vs. The Usos would be the main event.

We see the panel of Wade Barrett, Kayla Braxton, WWE Hall of Famer Booker T, and Peter Rosenberg looking snazzy for the big night ahead. They transition over to Byron Saxton in front of a boisterous crowd. He asks a couple of fans which match their looking most forward to, and both answer the same – Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs. Jimmy and Jey Uso for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships. Both agree that new Tag Team Champs will be crowned tonight.

We then go into a video package of Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship. The panel then discusses how monumental this one will be, especially considering how much they’ve both grown since their WrestleMania match three years ago.

Barrett predicts Ripley will emerge the winner. Booker predicts that Charlotte will retain. Peter predicts that Rhea will be the winner.

Another topic trending in the news is the current WWE contract status of Drew McIntyre. Apparently, the former WWE Champion hasn’t reached a new deal with the company and could be gone within the next 9 months.
