WWE is determined to make Jade Cargill a big hit.
On September 26th, WWE announced the signing of Cargill via ESPN, before embarking on a social media blitz. Many of the company’s biggest stars were quick to comment on the new arrival, and Triple H took to social media to welcome her aboard.
Hall of Famers such as Mick Foley have also queued up to predict greatness.
Since then, hype videos for the star have appeared on SmackDown and Raw, although there’s no word on when she’ll make her debut.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said WWE is determined to make Cargill as big a deal as possible. He added that while stars will continue to move between AEW and WWE, he sees WWE having a clear upper hand, much like they did against WCW in the early 1990s.
“Oh, yeah. They really want to make this a big one. They see star power in her because of her look, and her presence.
It was interesting to see Tony last night, Tony Khan last night was asked about Jade Cargill, after the show. And the way he told the story was that I mean, I knew the basic gist was that they were, they were apart on money. Okay, that’s how I had heard the big thing started. And then whether she was already talking to WWE, or that led to her talking WWE, I don’t know, but they were negotiating, and they were, they were far apart.
Tony’s version was that they were apart and that he came back with an offer for her, which was actually higher than the number she asked for. And he thought that, you know, there was a shot that he would get her, I guess, probably higher than she had asked originally because I’m sure he was already aware of WWE’s involvement and WWE probably pitching a very high number. But he said that his offer was higher than she first asked for, and thought even until the end that they had a shot at getting her but you know, she wanted to go to WWE, and she’s probably not going to be the last person to do this.
There’s a lot of inevitabilities there’ll be people going in both directions. But right now, you know, one company is dominant over the other this is, this is very much a situation, you know, I would say comparable to late 80s, early 90s WCW I mean, they’re not as bad. AEW is not nearly as bad off. But you know, I mean it’s just one of those things it’s the evolution or whatever you know. I mean, I really see a lot of AEW, you know, is history repeating itself.”
Jade Cargill Turned Down Two Offers From AEW
The comments from Tony Khan that Meltzer is referencing came at the post-WrestleDream media scrum. During the press conference, the AEW boss was asked about Jade Cargill leaving and revealed he made two separate bids to keep her.
However, when it became clear they remained some way apart in negotiations, Khan said his focus shifted to giving her the best send-off possible.
