Ace Steel Recalls Surprising Vince McMahon Reaction Following Donald Trump Match

Ace Steel had a very unique introduction to WWE fans thanks to Vince McMahon.

While aspiring wrestlers back in 2007 hoped that they would leave a lasting impression in their main roster debut with their technical in-ring work, high-flying ability or their charismatic personality, Steel would dress up as one of the biggest names in business to compete in one of the more negatively received matches on WWE TV.

On an episode of Raw in January 2007, Steel dressed up as Hall of Famer and former US President Donald Trump to face off against Kiley Mclean, who was dressed up as Rosie O’Donnell. Both were introduced by McMahon ahead of time, beginning the build to the Battle of the Billionaires between himself and Trump at WrestleMania 23. After the bell rang, O’Donnell was distracted by cake and Trump protected his hair at all costs in what was a poor attempt at comedy in 2007, much less 2023.

The match mercifully came to an end when Trump hit a second rope headbutt to pin O’Donnell. While the match was mainly presented to please the audience of one sitting at ringside and not the fans watching, McMahon was impressed by the man behind the hair and made him a surprising offer.

Speaking on Wrestling with Rip Rogers, Steel stated that McMahon enjoyed the match so much that he was asked to join the roster as a result:

“[I got] a one-night bonus from Vince. Vince loved it. A week later, I got a call. I got hired. I was like, ‘Really?'”

Steel only wrestled one televised match following his signing with the company, which took place in October 2007 before being released in February 2008.

Also during the interview, Ace Steel recounted the infamous events that took place at AEW All Out.

In another bizarre Vince McMahon story, an AEW employee believes they were approached in 2019 just so they could be fired by the Chairman at a later date.

Vince McMahon Makes Rare Appearance At Corporate Event

No longer an onscreen character or in charge of the weekly creative on WWE TV, McMahon is much less frequent with his appearances within the company, predominantly undertaking a more behind-the-scenes role. However, Vince McMahon was recently spotted at a WWE Christmas party.
