Major Update On Mercedes Mone And Her Future In AEW

Mercedes Mone in NJPW

Ever since the artist formerly known as Sasha Banks walked out of WWE in 2022, and rebranded herself as Mercedes Mone she has been linked to AEW.

Her time in Japan for NJPW saw her become the second-ever IWGP Women’s Champion and due to AEW’s working relationship with the promotion it seemed Mone was on her way to becoming “All Elite”. But an injury sustained in her match against Willow Nightingale for the newly-created NJPW STRONG Women’s Title halted those plans.

Despite her in-ring absence, Mone was in attendance at All In London at Wembley Stadium earlier this year, which further fueled the fires of speculation about an impending deal with the promotion.

However, a recent update from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select suggests that plans between All Elite Wrestling and Mone have waned.

Will Mercedes Mone ever sign for AEW?

During a Q&A session, Sapp revealed that any plans Mone and Tony Khan’s promotion had in place, a no longer.

I haven’t heard anything lately besides that the once working plans for AEW and Mercedes (Monè) are no longer working plans.

This report has led to speculation about a potential return to WWE under her former moniker, Sasha Banks. Banks’ departure from the company in May 2022, alongside Naomi, was reportedly due to creative frustrations while holding the Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Significant changes within WWE, including Triple H taking over creative control from Vince McMahon, have raised the possibility of a Sasha Banks comeback.

Additionally, both Mone and her former tag team partner, Bayley have hinted at getting back in the ring together. With the Royal Rumble approaching on January 27th, the possibility of a Banks return seems to have gained momentum.

Recently, Mone took to social media to announce that she had returned to training.
