Former AEW Champion Set To Make In-Ring Return After Lengthy Absence

Former AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa is back and set to make her in-ring return after a lengthy absence.

Rosa has been out of action since August 2022 due to a severe back injury. During her championship reign, she was forced to pull out of her scheduled AEW Women’s Title defence against Toni Storm at All Out.

When Thunder Rosa was forced to relinquish the Women’s Championship due to injury, an interim champion was appointed. Toni Storm emerged victorious, holding the title until she was defeated by Jamie Hayter at Full Gear. Following the event, Rosa relinquished the title entirely, and Hayter was declared the undisputed champion. Storm’s interim reign was also elevated to full-fledged champion status.

This turn of events sparked controversy among some members of the women’s division, who expressed their discontent with Rosa’s prolonged absence and the perceived preferential treatment given to her. Before their match at Full Gear, Toni Storm echoed these sentiments, stating that Rosa should “come back to work” and “defend her title like she’s supposed to.” These comments came after Storm’s earlier remarks that the situation was “bothering a lot of people.”

Rosa returned to the company in February this year as part of the Spanish commentary team. In recent months there have multiple rumours stating that her return was imminent.

Thunder Rosa makes her return to the ring on the December 23rd edition of AEW Collision

As announced on the promotion’s social media channels, Rosa makes her return to action teaming with Abadon to take on the duo of TBS Champion Julia Hart and Skye Blue.

The match came about after Rosa made her surprise return to the company to save Abadon from a two-on-one beatdown from Hart and Blue.
