John Cena’s Fast X Reaches #1 At The Box Office, Earnings Revealed

John Cena Fast and Furious

John Cena has successfully made the transition from WWE Superstar to Hollywood icon, and his latest film is doing blockbuster numbers at the box office.

Fast X is the tenth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise, helmed by Vin Diesel as car racing thief-turned-superspy Dominic Toretto. John Cena made his franchise debut in F9: The Fast Saga as Toretto’s estranged brother Jakob, who was exiled from the family after it was believed he caused their father’s death in a car race many years ago.

Cena reprises his role as Jakob Toretto in Fast X, having reconciled with his brother and formed a bond with his nephew Brian, otherwise known as Little B.

It’s no surprise that the movie was a success on opening weekend, racing straight to number 1 at the box office. According to Variety, the film earned $320 million worldwide after officially premiering in theaters on May 19th. In the United States, the film earned $67.5 million domestically, placing it behind F9, which earned $70 million domestically on its opening weekend near the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

John Cena Isn’t The First Former WWE Champion To Star In The Fast & Furious Franchise

While Cena joined the Fast family in 2021, he was not the first former WWE Champion to have a major role in the franchise. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson joined the franchise in 2011, taking on the role of FBI agent Luke Hobbs. His character was prominent up to the 8th installment, but he departed the series due to reported disputes with Vin Diesel.

However, The Rock did star in the spinoff film Hobbs & Shaw in 2019. That film did not feature Vin Diesel and instead focused on the unlikely partnership of Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw.

Former WWE Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey has also been featured in a Fast & Furious film, albeit in a smaller role. She took on the role of Kara in Furious 7, engaging in a fight scene with Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty Ortiz.
